Jackson County, Arkansas
I drove to Jackson County this week to see if the farmers had burned the rice fields. Some of you many recall when I posted several images in the fall of 2008 of the burning rice fields. One of those images was [After the harvest...]
In 2009 Arkansas broke a record for the most rainfall in one year since 1888. From what I could tell not only were the farmers unable to burn the rice fields, but some of the fields looked as if they weren't harvested.
The field in this image was harvested, but not burned and it's flooded and covered with a thin layer of ice. This isn't good for the farmers.
The farmer is the only man in our economy who buys everything at retail, sells everything at wholesale, and pays the freight both ways.
