Ken @ 2010-01-28 08:05:19 - You said it. Nature's ability to simply exist and keep moving despite our everyday concerns is pretty amazing. Your photo communicates a sense of primal environments; untouched. I like that.
Chris Cardelli @ 2010-01-28 10:27:01 - fantastic mood and place - the birds make the imege exeptional
yiannis krikis @ 2010-01-28 11:44:08 - How often does the flooding happen?? I like the layers in the image.

elk @ 2010-01-28 13:54:21 - Beautiful imagery. I am sorry to read about the devastation though.
Kala @ 2010-01-28 14:43:02 - It has a sad mood, still it is utterly beautiful
the flock of birds really make the composition
yz @ 2010-01-28 14:47:40 - Good shot. Birds on sky are amazing.
Joachim @ 2010-01-28 15:31:13 - The geese pay it no never-mind. best...jerry

Otto K. @ 2010-01-28 18:19:41 - yikes.. that's such a big loss.. but you're right, it does make for a nice picturesque scene.. nice work capturing those geese(?) flying there.. :)
rian @ 2010-01-28 18:53:38 - Stunning tones and wonderful contrast between the dead trees and the joyously flying birds.
Anshul @ 2010-01-28 19:22:51 - Sad and strange that it was a disaster that caused such a tranquil scene.
Dustin @ 2010-01-28 20:26:43 - this is a stunning image. your figures make me see it differently though - those kinds of losses are hard.
michele @ 2010-01-28 21:42:31 - you're right sherri, it's beautiful. i love the reflections and the birds, the mist rising from the water in the distance. there is still passion, even in all the gray.
100 million. it's a drop in the bucket. it's the loose change that falls to the ground from a hole in uncle sam's pocket. it's birdseed, sand, the grit one drags into the kitchen from the bottom of their feet.
we take it for granted. there is water, so we don't feel thirsty. until the flood recedes, and our tongues begin to swell. elbows begin to dry, and hair clumps like empty soy stalks.
i'm sorry for the farmers and the people that counted on that money.
Seraphine @ 2010-01-28 22:55:58 - Lovely.

Ginnie @ 2010-01-29 02:48:08 - Well, I imagine the geese and herons are happy at least.
Turnbill @ 2010-01-29 04:53:42 - wonderful tones and light .... a bit ghostly!
crash @ 2010-01-29 06:56:17 - The wetlands look makes it great for the wildlife, but the loss in human values is staggering. We humans just "think" we're controlling anything in nature!
A fine, very attractive shot. Love the toning.
don @ 2010-01-29 07:59:45 - Very lovely, Sherri. This has a beautiful atmosphere to it. It would make a lovely postcard :)
Charles Dastodd @ 2010-01-29 08:59:09 - such a beautiful and soft image. I love the action added to the photo with the birds in flight. A really beautiful image.

kyungmee @ 2010-01-29 14:40:16 - Powerful composition. Like the multiple layers and the placement of the birds, along with a slightly misty quality to it...
Chris @ 2010-01-29 17:11:19 - I love Jules Feiffer - yet hadn't seen mention of his name in years - thank you, Sherri. The tale you tell of the Arkansas economy is repeated endlessly wherever you turn. We again learn the value of family and friends. And as importantly - the value of time above material things.
Stephen Phillips @ 2010-01-29 19:35:12 - yes, the devastation looks wonderful here. Love the tones and the mood.

Bouncing Light @ 2010-01-30 16:23:52
i wonder if the other birds consider the fourth bird from the left to be a black sheep? being an inverted v in a world of vees isn't always easy.
Seraphine @ 2010-01-31 00:38:40- Very beautiful mood. I love it.
beanow @ 2010-01-31 04:39:55 - Very sad, but a hauntingly beautiful image.
Susan @ 2010-01-31 13:17:35 - wow! love this!
faisal @ 2010-01-31 13:30:38 - Such a income loss for the farmers. If you haven't told the stories behind I have thought this was a beautiful view over a lake or wetland. The image is so beautiful and I love the sepia like tones.
Frida @ 2010-01-31 15:22:34 - That is heartbreaking. Farmers seem to bear the brunt of modern technology, warmer weathers, abnormal seasonal changes... I like your image, with the birds perfectly composed, the warm colors hinting daybreak. Maybe it will be a good day for farmers worldwide.
Mia @ 2010-01-31 17:02:09 - The mist and the gray tones create the mood caused by a devastating flood. Yet, the beautiful birds flying seem to generate a feeling of hope and a light at the end of the tunnel. Stunning composition Sherri.
John Maslowski @ 2010-01-31 18:25:13 - This is really a lovely photo with the flying birds and the mist and the dreamy tones. And it contradicts the disaster, which you describe. Beautiful work.
Reiner @ 2010-02-01 02:51:42 - great photo
Stephen @ 2010-02-01 08:39:40 - Amazing image, beautiful mood! The capture is perfect with this fog and birds! Excellent work!

Guido @ 2010-02-02 14:42:23 - Very sombre.
Erinn @ 2010-02-02 15:29:49 - lovely light and atmosphere wonderful captured
fabrizio @ 2010-02-03 01:00:43 - Wow love the reflections and the birds flying in formation! Really nice framing too.
Andy @ 2010-02-04 16:04:42 - Postcard material! And I don't mean the ones from the cheap section at wallmart, not this is the real deal! Nice work!
Arjan - PlasticDaisy @ 2010-02-08 15:03:59 - Oh wow! This is gorgeous!
Krista @ 2010-02-15 04:47:11

According to the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture, Arkansas farmers sustained nearly $400 million in crop losses for the 2009 growing season. There were 3,700 full and part-time jobs lost, accounting for $100 million in wages and salaries.
Soybean growers lost an estimated $204 million, and cotton and cottonseed losses were $120 million. Rice growers lost $46 million. Though soybeans had the greatest dollar loss, cotton producers had the largest loss as a percentage of gross revenue.
and yet the devastation can look so beautiful
Artists can color the sky red because they know it's blue. Those of us who aren't artists must color things the way they really are or people might think we're stupid.
