- A bleak scene, with the barest hint of artificiality in the power lines and the far-off house. Interesting commentary on ignorance and knowledge as well... reminds me of the fact that I am still ignorant of any assignments for my classes that I have tomorrow!
Chris @ 2010-01-18 13:25:13 - As long as we don't ignore everything that is a challenge. Instead we should do something to help. It's kind of a bleak scene and I think it shows a sad mood.
Frida @ 2010-01-18 14:25:24 - oh not good!!! i feel for farmers, at the mercy of the elements, especially in this age of weird weather! yes, let's pretend
Elaine- @ 2010-01-18 14:52:09 - Grey, bleak and unheartening.....Great work! Making the viewer feel (even if the feeling is downturning) is what photography is all about. Congratulations!
mike @ 2010-01-18 15:00:23 - This really reminds me of Delaware...Southern Delaware.
hoi @ 2010-01-18 17:41:01 - I agree with the first comment. A bleak scene but with a lot of beauty.
Andrés @ 2010-01-18 17:50:37 - The only knowledge I have is of the ignorance, having been a farmer proves it : ]
ordinaryimages @ 2010-01-18 18:30:58 - it's a big hassle for these farmers who rely on the climate for the outcome of their crops.. hope they recover soon.. nice catch.. :)
rian @ 2010-01-18 19:21:30 - a typical scene that is far from typical when you snap away
e l k @ 2010-01-18 19:43:32 - This looks like land around here when we had our flooding.
Otto K. @ 2010-01-18 21:08:42 - Will send hopes that the fields will be in good shape for planting time
Yvonne @ 2010-01-18 21:35:57 - Simple et beau !
JMS* @ 2010-01-18 21:45:05 - Looks like some extra work for the farmer indeed. Hope they dont have to struggle too much when it thaws out. Nicely framed.
Ivar @ 2010-01-18 22:17:21 - this is the road one always finds themselves on immediately after washing their car. it's a cosmic joke played by nature on manind.
(it's a beautiful photo, sherri. i love the focus on the near ground: the tire tracks, stones, mud, water, the temporary impressions of the day)
Seraphine @ 2010-01-18 22:55:39 - i don't see the bleak here. maybe it's because we don't have many colors in the winter. but in this i see really gorgeous blue/grays in the sky and in the reflections on the water. and i see sun on the poles and grass. to me this feels calm and confident.
michele @ 2010-01-18 23:01:50 - Great capture, beautiful blue/gray in the sky and water! Beautiful work!
Andrei Barbu @ 2010-01-19 00:32:08 - No just a bleak shot but those subtle colour tones are great kind of reminds me of our rurual roads

yiannis krikis @ 2010-01-19 12:43:05 - So do yu drive through this? Water, power lines and distant tower. This image has it all.

david wilson @ 2010-01-19 16:20:46 - très simple mais éloquente..très beaux choix de tonalités
flo g @ 2010-01-19 16:34:40 - wonderfully captured! i love the way the water runs over the road here and into the field. it feels a bit like there could have been a flood and we are seeing things after the water as receded. A really nice job :)
Charles Dastodd @ 2010-01-19 18:29:04 - that has always baffled me -- rice fields in the USA.
Diane @ 2010-01-19 20:50:54 - Oh goodness that looks so cold! Excellent capture!

Marcie @ 2010-01-20 03:28:18 - nice colors ... but things don't look good for this road! flood!
crash @ 2010-01-20 07:06:50 - What a huge puddle!
BoB @ 2010-01-20 07:16:23 - Yes, very bleak. Winter in the south is more oppressive than winter in the north in many ways. In the south, everything that died in the fall is left exposed on the ground or covered with a thin glaze of ice. In the north, we have two feet of snow to cover it all until spring and then, miraculously, the crocuses appear.
Turnbill @ 2010-01-20 07:53:19 - Love the tones, beautiful shot.
Ashish Sidapara @ 2010-01-20 10:13:21 - Looks a bit like bright moonlight with that lack of bright blue or like old fashioned film. I like it .
oldshutterhand @ 2010-01-20 11:15:06 - This reminds me of an image you had a week or so ago. Only that one had snow/ice, and this has water/mud. Very cool!
Arjan - PlasticDaisy @ 2010-01-20 12:29:02 - What a wonderful winter scene. I can feel the cold.
Teri @ 2010-01-20 12:48:02 - I like the muted tones and great lines in this photo
Scarabaeus @ 2010-01-20 13:50:33 - Looks cold and depressing. Interesting photo. Great colors.
Sabine (foKuspoint) @ 2010-01-20 22:11:49 - That looks like some awfully winterish weather in your neck of the woods. Is that water frozen?
Erinn @ 2010-01-21 15:09:06 - Very bleak looking, really captures a feeling.
Jamieson Pryor @ 2010-02-05 15:01:52

...this rice field and driveway didn't flood. Or better yet, that the flood waters will be a good thing and this year he won't have to irrigate the field as much as a typical year. We'll also pretend it won't keep him from getting into the field early enough to plant the rice to ensure a harvest in 2010.
The pleasures of ignorance are as great, in their way, as the pleasures of knowledge.
- Aldous Huxley
