up the road or down it

The wind blew; not up the road or down it, though that’s bad enough, but sheer across it. For a moment it would die away, and the traveller would begin to delude himself into the belief that, exhausted with its previous fury, it had quietly lain itself down to rest, when, whoo! he would hear it growling and whistling in the distance, and on it would come rushing over the hill-tops, and sweeping along the plain, gathering sound and strength as it drew nearer, until it dashed with a heavy gust against horse and man, driving the sharp rain into their ears, and its cold damp breath into their very bones; and past them it would scour, far, far away, with a stunning roar, as if in ridicule of their weakness, and triumphant in the consciousness of its own strength and power.
— Charles Dickens

What a perfect marriage of words and image!
The ‘Polaroid feel’ of this shot is very appealing.

Cool photo. This reminds me of the rural area in which I grew up. There was nothing there.

Stunning softness in this – in spite of the messy conditions. Gorgeous image and accompanying quote.

The treatment makes this a timeless scene. Very nicely done. And I like the title you gave it :) Oh and happy NewYear (little late but oh well…) :)

I love this photo. It has such a raw and pure look! The way you composed the pole on the left is very effictive and again the colors are great. Could be a movie still.

No one stirs me like Dickens–I feel every word and your image here does exactly the same thing. Superb Sherri!

You have seen something so interesting in a rather plain seen – this is very well done, Sherri.

Beautiful, beautiful water – though the fields suggest a bit more than is needed. Beautiful, muted colors, too, as though all that water has washed them out.

“And the wind blew the echoes of the long-faded voices / And they sang me a song like the old cowboys sang” (Lyle Lovett)

Picture perfect, Sherri. Blows me away. Nothing more to say.

All the best & safe travels, Fritsch.
